   Le copyright – terme qui signifie littéralement “droit de copie” – est une mention apposée au début ou à la fin d’un texte pour informer le public que ce texte est protégé et qu’il ne peut être reproduit sans autorisation préalable de l’auteur ou de ses ayants droit. Définie par l’UNESCO (Organisation des Nations Unies pour l’éducation, la science et la culture) dans la Convention universelle sur le droit d’auteur (signée en septembre 1952 et révisée en juillet 1971), la mention normalisée comprend trois éléments: (a) le symbole © pour “copyright”, (b) le nom du titulaire du droit d’auteur, (c) l’indication de l’année de première publication. Cette mention normalisée vaut aussi pour les pages web. Toutefois, chez les auteurs et les créateurs numériques, les adeptes du copyleft ou de la licence Creative Commons sont de plus en plus nombreux, afin de respecter la vocation première du web, réseau de communication et de diffusion à l’échelon mondial.
